Fazzoletto Lega Doganale Italica 1847 PIO IX

Bellissimo foulard commemorativo realizzato per celebrare la “Lega Doganale Italiana”, primo tentativo di unificazione dell’Italia promosso nel 1847 da Papa Pio IX e a cui aderirono anche Leopoldo II di Toscana e Carlo Alberto di Savoia. Il fazzoletto, di misure circa 90x90cm, riporta il busto dei tre sovrani con la scritta “rigeneratori d’Italia”, le bandiere del Granducato di Toscana, del Regno Pontificio e del Piemonte con i relativi fregi, il tutto incorniciato dal tricolore. Interessante ed evocativa testimonianza dell’entusiasmo popolare attorno a questo progetto, poi rivelatosi fallimentare, del Risorgimento italiano.

Nice commemorative foulard created to celebrate the ‘Italian Customs League,’ the first attempt at Italian unification promoted in 1847 by Pope Pius IX, with the support of Leopold II of Tuscany and Charles Albert of Savoy. The handkerchief, measuring approximately 90×90 cm, features the busts of the three rulers with the inscription ‘Regenerators of Italy,’ the flags of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the Papal States, and the Kingdom of Piedmont along with their respective emblems, all framed by the Italian tricolor. An interesting and evocative testimony to the popular enthusiasm surrounding this ultimately unsuccessful project of the Italian Risorgimento.
