Elmo Guardia Civica M1847 Pio IX

Caratteristico ed iconico elmo modello 1847 della Guardia Civica di Papa Pio IX (1846-1878). Bell’esemplare del tipico elmo chiodato “all’antica”, comune a molte guardie civiche italiane, costruito in cuoio bollito laccato nero, con finimenti in ottone e soggolo a scaglie. Sul davanti reca la placca della guardia civica pontificia con la tiara, le chiavi decussate e la scritta PIO IX. Presenti i normali segni del tempo, con una piccola rottura sul paranuca, ma elmo ancora in condizioni molto buone. All’interno è annotato il nome della guardia che lo possedeva.

Characteristic and iconic Model 1847 helmet of the Civic Guard of Pope Pius IX (1846–1878). A fine example of the typical “old-style” spiked helmet, common to many Italian civic guards of the period. It is made of boiled leather lacquered in black, with brass fittings and a scaled chinstrap. On the front it bears the plate of the Pontifical Civic Guard, featuring the papal tiara, the crossed keys, and the inscription “PIO IX.” The helmet shows the normal signs of age, with a small break on the neck guard, but it still remains in very good overall condition. Inside is written the name of the guardsman who originally owned it.
