Elmo cavalleria V.E. II

Elmo di cavalleria da truppa risalente al regno di Vittorio Emanuele II (1861-1878). Caratteristico elmo, che conserva ancora le peculiarità degli elmi da guerra, ad esclusivo utilizzo dei primi 4 reggimenti di cavalleria del Regio Esercito Italiano. Trattasi di un ex elmo di epoca Carlo Alberto (1831-1849) successivamente modificato in elmo di cavalleria Vittorio Emanuele II; tale trasformazione si evince in particolare dal coppo, dal sistema di fissaggio della croce e dal foro presente sul davanti (che in epoca albertina accoglieva il gancetto della catenella). L’elmo presenta il rivestimento del turbante in pelo di foca su cuoio, bordi alle visiere e soggoli in ottone, interno in cuoiame. Da notare le dimensioni della cresta, sensibilmente maggiori rispetto a quelle degli esemplari più tardi.

Characteristic helmet, which still retains the peculiarities of war helmets, for the exclusive use of the first 4 cavalry regiments of the Royal Italian Army. This is a former helmet from the Carlo Alberto era (1831-1849) subsequently modified into a Vittorio Emanuele II cavalry helmet; this transformation is evident in particular from the tile, from the fastening system of the cross and from the hole present on the front (which in the Albertine era housed the hook of the chain). The helmet has the covering of the turban in seal hair on leather, metal visors and chinstraps, leather interior. Note the size of the crest, significantly larger than those of the later specimens.
