Elmetto M16 (TJ66) Freikorps “minenwerfer”

Spettacolare elmetto tedesco Stahlhelm M16 riutilizzato subito dopo la guerra (ca. 1919–1923) da un’unità mortaisti (Minenwerfer) dei Freikorps, i celebri corpi franchi paramilitari che animarono i primi anni della Repubblica di Weimar. L’elmetto è uno Stahlhelm della Prima guerra mondiale con cerchione interno in metallo, collezionisticamente noto come M16 di 2º tipo o M17, ed è marcato “TJ66” (produttore: C. Thiel & Söhne; taglia 66). L’elmo è completo di liner, mentre il soggolo, come spesso accade, è mancante. Sul guscio si nota una bella stratificazione di verniciature verdi e, sul fianco sinistro, è dipinto in rosso l’iconico teschio dei Freikorps. Con lo stesso colore compare, lungo la falda interna, la sigla dell’unità del proprietario, interpretabile come “MWA” (Minenwerfer-Abteilung) oppure “MWH” (Minenwerfer Heuschkel). Raro esempio di elmetto originale utilizzato dai Freikorps!

Spectacular German Stahlhelm M16 helmet reused shortly after the war (ca. 1919–1923) by a Minenwerfer (trench mortar) unit of the Freikorps, the famous paramilitary volunteer corps active during the early years of the Weimar Republic. The helmet is a Stahlhelm from the First World War with the metal liner band, known among collectors as the “second pattern” M16 or simply M17, and is marked “TJ66” (manufacturer: C. Thiel & Söhne; shell size 66). The helmet retains its original liner, while the chinstrap, as is often the case, is missing. The shell displays an attractive layered green paint finish and, on the left side, the iconic Freikorps skull emblem painted in red. In the same color, along the inner skirt, appears the original owner’s unit marking, interpretable either as “MWA” (Minenwerfer-Abteilung) or “MWH” (Minenwerfer Heuschkel). A rare example of an original helmet used by the Freikorps!
