Luftwaffe musical corps four-pocket tunic 1937 (Kampfgeschwader 254)

A very nice four-pocket service tunic for a Luftwaffe airman belonging to the musical corps of the flight personnel. The jacket in fact has the rare predisposition to accommodate on the shoulders the special “swallow’s nest” trimmings that identified the members of the military musical bands. The other characteristics of the tunic are those of the standard enlisted pattern from the late 1930s, still with the coloured piping on the collar. The jacket has the embroidered RZM-type eagle on the breast, enlisted ranks shoulder straps, “Obergefreiter” collar tabs and sleeve chevron. All the attributes are in yellow, waffenfarbe identifying the flight personnel (Fliegertruppe). The jacket has three stamps on the inside: the size numbers with the acceptance LBA(S) 1937 (= Luftwaffe Bekleidungsamt Stettin); the stamp of the Fliegerhorstkommandantur. (= Air Base Command) of Glessen; the unit stamp placed in 1938 by the “II/K.G. nr. 254”, i.e. the II group of the 254th bomber wing (Kampfgeschwader). Tunic in mint condition, it would be difficult to put in a collection a more beautiful and evocative LW musician jacket than this example.

Bellissima giacca di servizio a quattro tasche da aviere della Luftwaffe appartenente al corpo musicale del personale di volo. La giacca infatti ha la rara predisposizione per accogliere sulle spalle le speciali guarnizioni a “nido di rondine” che identificavano appunto i membri delle bande musicali militari. Le altre caratteristiche della giacca sono quelle regolamentari degli esemplari da truppa di fine anni ’30, con ancora la profilatura colorata sul collo. La giacca porta l’aquila ricamata da petto di tipo RZM, spalline da truppa, mostrine e grado da manica da Obergefreiter. Tutti gli attributi sono di colore giallo, waffenfarbe identificativa del personale di volo (Fliegertruppe). La giacca all’interno presenta tre timbri: i numeri di taglia con l’accettazione LBA(S) 1937 (= Luftwaffe Bekleidungsamt Stettin); il timbro dell’Fliegerhorstkommandantur. (= Comando di base aerea) di Glessen; il timbro di unità posto nel 1938 dal “II/K.G. nr. 254”, ossia il II gruppo del 254° stormo bombardieri (Kampfgeschwader). Giacca in condizioni pari al nuovo, sarebbe difficile mettere in collezione una giacca da musico LW più bella ed evocativa di questo esemplare.
