Heer Gebirgsjäger administrative officer schirmmutze by EREL
A nice “Schirmmutze” peaked cap for a Wehrmacht officer produced by the prestigious company eReL (Robert Lubstein) of Berlin. The cap bears the dark green Waffenfarbe piping pertaining to the military administration (Heeresverwaltung), while between the eagle and the cockade there is the Edelweiss badge which indicated belonging to the mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger). It should be noted that the insignias are certainly mounted originally and that the eagle was created in an elevated position to make place for the Edelweiss, so it is not a simple modified verwaltung cap. The cap probably belonged to an administrative officer attached to a Gebirgsjäger unit, but it could also be a GJ officer’s cap where, due to a manufacturing error, the wrong shade of green was used. Cap with some signs of use and age (see photo) but interesting early example of EREL schirmmutze linked to the Gebirgsjäger.
